Is it hard to transition a toddler from a crib to a bed?

I transition both of my 1st 2 children from a crib to a toddler bed before they were a year old. Because they kept climbing out of their crib. Then when they wouldnt stay it that. We went to a twin bed. Then they both would stay in bed. I had rails all the way down the sides. Now with my 3rd child he is just a year old and we totally skipped the toddler bed. I think it depends on the child. She maybe ready if she was that interested in it.
